Dive Into Fun

For more than four decades, Guilford Racquet & Swim Club has brought friends and families together through great activities and organized programming.

Along with being an athletic club, we also offer a resort-like setting around the pool coupled with professional swim coaching and lessons in Guilford, CT.

Enjoy a cushioned lounge chair under an umbrella while enjoying your book! Come by for one of our poolside events and invite your friends for a day at the pool. Day Camp Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need to be interested in tennis to attend GRSC Day Camp?

Absolutely not! The campers will play some fun racquets games during their time at camp!

What does my child bring to camp?

Please send your child DAILY to camp with the following:

  • Sunscreen
  • Towel
  • Bathing suit (they may wear it under their clothes if they would like)
  • NON-GLASS refillable water bottle
  • Lunch
  • Snacks (two if they are all-day kids, and one if they are morning only)
  • Sneakers.
  • Tennis racquet (we have racquets your child can buy if needed)
  • Swim goggles (if needed/wanted)
  • Extra change of clothes (if needed/wanted)

Please remember to LABEL EVERYTHING you are sending to camp and that it is spelled correctly! Your child will be in charge of carrying their bag at camp, so please make sure it is a size that is manageable for them.

What does a typical day look like at GRSC Day Camp?

Activity schedules are rotating during the week. Therefore, your child may not have every activity every day, and most likely will not have the same activity at the same time each day. The following activities will be part of their session at camp: organized games/activities, sports (Gaga Ball, Four Square, Kickball, etc.), racquets fun (games using the equipment and courts for tennis, pickleball, and paddle), water play, lunch/playground time, supervised free swim, DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) and arts and crafts.

What if I need to pick my child up early or drop off late?

If you know ahead of time, you can let your child’s counselor know about the schedule change. If the change is last minute, you can contact the Camp Director.

Is my child allowed to go to the snack bar during the day with money to purchase snacks?

No. Beyond lunch, we ask that any snacks they will have are provided from home.

Where is GRSC Day Camp, and where do its activities take place?

We are located, and all camp activities occur at 420 Church Street in Guilford, on the Guilford Racquet and Swim Club grounds, across the street from the Arts Center and next to the police station.

Swim Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a swim team try-out?

There is no swim team try-out, but participants must be able to swim one lap independently across the pool.

How many children per coach in each swim lesson group?

The ratio is 5:1, but the instructor also has an assistant in the pool, so the ratio drops to 5:2.  For Swim Team there are 2-3 coaches at each swim practice depending on the age.

Can my child swim with a sibling outside of their age group?

We try to accommodate those requests, but it depends on numbers, available space etc.  You always need to get permission from the Swim Director prior to registering outside of your child’s age group.  You can reach her at pool@guilfordracquet.com.

What happens if it rains?

We generally run practice in the rain, unless it’s thundering/lightning or in heavy downpours.  Emails will be sent the morning of if a program is going to be cancelled.  We do not offer make-ups for swim practices, but make-ups will be offered for Group Swim Lessons.

Is my child ready for Swim Team?

If you think your child needs a bit more time, we have a great 6 and under swim team practice group, which is essentially an advanced swim lesson.  Your child needs to be able to swim independently in order to participate.

Is there a uniform? Or anything else I have to buy for Swim Team?

There is a team suit and swim cap.  They will be for sale on Suit-up Day in June.  Date TBD.  Kids will also need a practice suit, cap and goggles for daily practice.

Do you have to attend every practice and every swim meet?

You can attend as much as you want.  We encourage everyone to do meets because they are fun, but it is not mandatory.  You have to swim in at least 2 meets to participate in Championships.  Championships are not mandatory either.

Do you pro-rate Swim Team?

We do not require kids to participate in every practice and meet, but we hope they will, so we do not pro-rate the program.
